Officially Un-Disposable

Well, we made it to our new home near the University of Maryland in one piece, or three pieces, I guess. Our new favorite thing is waking up in the morning and seeing a mountain of boxes in our living room because it means our stuff got delivered. Yesterday, in fact. Late afternoon today I declared our kitchen Officially Un-Disposable because we no longer need to use our disposable plates, cups, plasticware, bowls, or napkins. And it feels so good. This past week felt a little bit like camping. We used mostly disposable things or we compromised our normal routine. For instance, we used $4 kitchen shears from a local grocery store to cut/dice/slice just about everything until we got a hold of some real knives. Oh, and the reason we were doing some much cutting/dicing/slicing when we are supposed to be focusing on unpacking? We have a 10 month old who loves table food. And he requires three solid meals a day. This has prevented us from just working until late afternoon unpacking and then grabbing McDonald's because, oh yeah, it's unhealthy for the baby. Therefore, our kitchen has had to be semi-fully-functioning since we arrived on Saturday because of the babe. Although it has probably been better for our waistbands to cook at home anyway. That's why it felt so good today to unpack the very last box of our kitchen stuff...I can cook normally again! No more flipping pancakes with a plastic fork. Or attempting to.

I have a lot of fun posts in mind (and pictures), but I'll leave you with The Most Embarrassing Moment of the Trip: Having to admit to my husband that I lost one of my Reef flip flops at a rest stop just 2 hours into our 3 day trek. Flip flops that I happened to be wearing. Don't ask. I still don't know how it happened.
Second Most Embarrassing Moment of the Trip: Having to wear socks and tennis shoes with just about everything because my only pair of flip flops was, well, no longer a pair.

Snapshots From a Day of Packing

Mr. M multitasks...on the phone setting up our new internet and entertaining the baby. What a dad!
Baby A had his own bit of fun while we organized stuff in his room today.

A Place to call Home

We signed a 12 month lease in Maryland...finally!

We were approved as renters for a nice 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom house near the University of Maryland. We didn't realize at the outset how competitive the renting market would be. We were rejected from 2 other places because we were outbid (yes, people were offering to rent for more than the owner's asking price!) or simply rejected for a different group.

Providentially, the LORD crossed our paths with a lovely real estate agent who was personally committed to getting us a nice place before our move-in date. We are greatly indebted to Ms. Victoria! The LORD also blessed us with great new colleagues for Mr. M who took time out of their schedules to communicate with our real estate agent and toured houses in our stead.

Though finding a house proved to be quite hairy, the way it worked itself out is further confirmation to us that it was God's idea that we move to Maryland and not our own.

The Plan (LORD and Baby A willing):
Monday 6/18: We are currently organizing and cleaning our apartment feverishly. Baby A has been enjoying Praise Baby dvds, his jumperoo, and hotdogs while we work. This will be our last night to sleep in our apartment.
Tuesday 6/19: Movers are coming to pack up and load our stuff. It will arrive in Maryland sometime before July 2. We will stay this night and next at my in-laws' house.
Wednesday 6/20: We will be doing last minute cleaning and Mr. M will be painting Baby A's blue room back white.
Thursday 6/21: Depending on when Baby A wakes up, we start our first leg of the journey in my Neon, destination Louisville, KY to stay with Aunt Sarah for the night before continuing on to our second and (LORD willing) final leg of the journey to MD.
Friday 6/22: Second leg of the journey from Louisville to Cheverly, MD where we will stay at a friend's house for the night.
Saturday 6/23: We will meet Victoria and get the keys to our new place. We will move in whatever belongings we stuffed into our car and await the movers' arrival.
Sunday 6/24: We will hopefully get to spend the morning worshiping at our new church home, Capitol Hill Baptist Church.

The blog will probably stay quiet until we arrive at our new place and get the internet hooked up. Stay tuned!
